Student councils and the student union
A student council (or subject council) consists of a group of students who have organised themselves to improve the quality of education and the study environment at a department or section. The student councils are affiliated with SUS, the Stockholm University student union (see below), but they independently decide what issues to focus on and how they wish to work.
At the Department of Psychology, the following student and doctoral student councils are active:
PhD Student Council in Athena (Will be substituted for another platform in 2026)
PÄR – Psychology Students’ Subject Council (also representing students in other first‑cycle and second‑cycle programmes)
SthlmUP (for PAO students, in Swedish)
Stockholm University student union
The Stockholm University student union was founded in 1883 and is your representative student organisation when studying psychology at Stockholm University.
The Student Union reception desk and administrative offices are located in the Student House (Universitetsvägen 2 A).
If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of your studies or feel that you have been treated unfairly, the student union can offer advice and support. The student ombuds provide information about students’ rights and obligations. This applies both to disciplinary matters and to issues related to your education. More information about student ombuds is available at
www.en.sus.se/ombud.
In cases of harassment or discrimination, students are referred to Equal Opportunities at Stockholm University, which can be contacted via email at likavillkor@su.se.
You can also take part in pubs, concerts, themed days and festivals — or even get involved in organising them yourself.
