Credit transfer
If you have previously taken and passed a course whose content overlaps with a course you have been admitted to, or that is included in the programme you are studying, you may apply for credit transfer.
You apply for credit transfer digitally via Ladok for students: Link to Ladok for students. After logging in, click on “Credit Transfer”.
Important to consider
Submit one application per course. If you intend to apply for a large number of credit transfers—for example within a study programme—you are advised to first contact the student counsellor for help with your application.
Specify which course is to be credited and corresponds to the course you have already completed.
- The application must be complete. This means that you must attach the following to your application:
Transcript from Ladok, certified copies of course certificates, study certificates, or equivalent showing the institution where you studied, time period, level, credit scope, and grade. - Course syllabus and course literature (only if the course was taken at another department or institution).
Processing time
The processing time is up to two months from the time a complete application is received. The decision is made by the Director of Studies, in accordance with the Rules and Procedures for Credit Transfer at Stockholm University: Link to till Rules and Procedures for Credit Transfer at Stockholm University.
If your application is rejected, the decision can be appealed.
A granted credit transfer is recorded in Ladok and cannot be reversed.
Possible consequences
The same course cannot be included twice in a degree, so a credited course is only counted once. If you are taking freestanding courses, you may therefore need to take additional courses to reach the total credits required to apply for a degree.
Please note that CSN does not grant student financial aid for transferred (credited) university credits.
For programmes with a fixed study structure, individual credit transfers do not always shorten the actual study time. If you have questions about how a credit transfer affects your study plan, you should contact the student counsellor to review possible consequences.
A credit transfer is entered in Ladok with the assessment “credited” (TG). If the credit transfer applies to part of a course, the grade TG is included in the final grade as E, which corresponds to a pass.
