A novel beginning for the Stockholm University AI Centre
The Stockholm University AI Centre convened its inaugural planning session in June and is now moving into the next phase.

Orchestrated by OKC-affiliated researcher and university AI coordinator Jens Jasche and Associate Professor Mathias Millberg Lindholm from the faculty of Mathematics, the Centre held its first strategy meeting to set direction and priorities.
Among the participants were researchers from both the natural science faculty as well as other disciplines—most notably university AI Coordinator Teresa Cerratto-Pargman from the faculty of Humanities.
“This was a great opportunity for us to gather researchers from many different fields to gauge how AI is being utilized academically in a broad sense,” says Jens Jasche.
During the session, university researchers and staff met to map needs, surface challenges, and pinpoint future AI applications and infrastructure development.
A lot of ground to cover
Since the decision by Stockholm University in Mars to launch the SU AI Centre, substantial effort has gone into charting the next few years of development. Meanwhile, the AI field has accelerated dramatically. While many academics across disciplines have been quick to adopt —and even develop—their own models and applications, a coordinated effort to provide shared resources has been missing.
The center, planned to be established in early 2026, is currently in the startup phase. The vision is to gather interdisciplinary researchers from across the sciences to identify key areas where AI can significantly contribute. Examples include large-scale data analysis, more efficient literature searches, scientific reporting, and faster, more advanced cosmological and climatological modeling.
