Research subjects
At Stockholm University, teaching within the biology programs is closely connected to cutting-edge research. Our teachers are active researchers whose work spans everything from molecular processes inside cells to the complex interactions that shape entire ecosystems.
The research takes place at four departments and centers, each with its own distinct focus and expertise:
- Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences (DEEP) – exploring biodiversity, plant physiology, ecosystem dynamics, and environmental change.
- Department of Molecular Biosciences, The Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) – investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie life, health, and disease.
- Department of Zoology – studying animal behavior, evolution, genetics, and ecology to understand the diversity and adaptability of life.
- Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) – focusing on the resilience of social-ecological systems and sustainable solutions for people and the planet.
