As of October 1, Anne Katrine Holm Pedersen is the new secretary at the Centre for Medieval Studies. Anne Katrine takes over the role from Wilhelm Ljungar, who has served as the centre’s secretary since January 2024.
Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist, Professor of History, especially Historical Geography, at Stockholm University, has been appointed Interim Director of the Centre for Medieval Studies for the period from 1 October to 31 December 2026 by the university’s President. Ljungqvist serves as Research Coordinator at the Department of History and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for the Bolin Centre for Climate Research and is one of the leaders for the Bolin Centre’s research theme “Past climates.” He is also Associate Professor ( docent ) of Physical Geography at the university.
Kurt Villads Jensen, professor of history at the Department of History and head of the Centre for Medieval Studies gives his report of a summer brimming with medieval activities.
On 23–24 April Kurt Villads Jensen and Heiko Droste organized the workshop "Baltic Bloodbaths – The Use of Political Violence in the Baltic Sea Region 1400–1600.". The workshop took place at Stockholm university's Gula villan and at the Department of History.
The Center for Medieval Studies at Stockholm University, in cooperation with the Center for Medieval Studies at University of Bergen, invites applications from PhD students in Scandinavia with any medieval research topic and international PhD students with a research focus on the Scandinavian Middle Ages for the upcoming PhD course, Medieval Interdisciplinarity – past, present, and future . The event will take place between the 26-28 of March in Stockholm, Sweden.
