A Warm Welcome to Associate Professor Azadeh Fattahi!
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Azadeh Fattahi has joined the Oskar Klein Centre (OKC) at Stockholm University as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics. Her arrival is supported by the prestigious Wallenberg Academy Fellowship, awarded for her exciting research project, "Probing Cosmology with Faint Dwarf Galaxies."

At OKC, Azadeh will focus on cosmological simulations aimed at deepening our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution, particularly through the study of faint dwarf galaxies in the local universe. These small galaxies are highly sensitive indicators of the nature and behavior of dark matter, providing essential observational tests for theoretical models.
Azadeh's team will develop some of the most detailed and sophisticated simulations to date, exploring and challenging the predictions of the widely accepted "cold dark matter" paradigm.
— We will develop one of the most detailed models of these faint galaxies. We will explore the standard “cold dark matter” model as well as alternatives, such as self-interacting dark matter, says Azadeh Fattahi.
Additionally, the research will investigate compelling alternative theories, such as self-interacting dark matter, potentially reshaping current understandings and opening new avenues in cosmology and astrophysics.
Azadeh is joining the Cosmology, Particle Astrophysics, and Strings (CoPS) division, where she will significantly contribute to OKC’s interdisciplinary and international research community. The OKC is renowned for its groundbreaking work in cosmology and particle physics, aiming to unravel fundamental questions about the universe's origins, structure, and composition.
Originally from Iran, Azadeh completed her Bachelor's degree in Physics in Tehran before earning her MSc and PhD at the University of Victoria, Canada. She then joined Durham University’s Institute for Computational Cosmology in the UK as a postdoctoral researcher, where her pioneering research secured a UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship in 2020.
Outside of her research, Azadeh enjoys reading, dancing Tango, and staying active through various sports.
We warmly welcome Azadeh to OKC and look forward to her contributions and exciting research ahead!
