Course Outline: Global governance institutions increasingly face contestation that plays out differently across policy domains: sanctions and tariffs in the economy, loss-and-damage claims in environmental governance, gray-zone coercion in security, and struggles over artificial intelligence (AI) and data sovereignty in technology are only a few examples.

This interdisciplinary course introduces PhD students to one key concept per domain – economic statecraft and coercion; climate justice and loss and damage; weaponized interdependence and hybrid threats; and algorithmic governance and digital sovereignty – co-taught by pairs of teachers from different disciplines within SCGG (economics, law, International Relations, philosophy, political science, psychology).

Each session combines an interdisciplinary introduction to the concept with a student-led presentation connecting it to participants’ own thesis projects or course papers. The final session is devoted to synthesis and to presenting final paper outlines.

Deadline for registration on December 10, 2026, by emailing the course convenor: Lisa.Dellmuth@su.se
