Theresa Squatrito Returns to Stockholm

For Squatrito, it is a return to familiar ground. She was a postdoctoral research fellow at the department from 2009 to 2013, and in January she gave a talk at SCGG titled “Can International Courts Judge without Political Constraints?”

“Theresa is an old friend of the department,” said Jonas Tallberg, a professor of political science and co-director of SCGG.

We asked Squatrito about her return to Stockholm and what she is working on.

You were a postdoctoral fellow here more than a decade ago. What brought you back?
I have very fond memories of Stockholm and great respect for the research environment and researchers at Stockholm University. As I begin to chart out new directions for my research following the publication of my book (Judging under Constraint), I knew there wasn’t a better place to receive constructive advice and encouragement on how to move forward. I am fortunate to have good friends and long-term colleagues in Stockholm, and I am excited to have some quality time with them.

What are you working on during your stay?
I am working on grant applications. I also plan to dedicate time to two working
papers. I do not have plans to do any teaching during my stay.

What is the main focus of your research right now?
My research currently focuses on how international institutions respond to elite criticism and what factors shape elites’ criticism of international institutions.

Besides your talk on Oct. 12, how can students and colleagues connect with you?I do not have plans to give any other talks, but I am very happy to meet with students and colleagues to discussion their research.
