  • Research for real-world impact

Gustav Martinsson’s research is recognized for real-world impact. Gustav Martinsson’s research is recognized for real-world impact. Gustav Martinsson’s research article "Can Environmental Policy Encourage Technical Change? Emissions Taxes and R&D Investment in Polluting Firms", published in the Review of Financial Studies and co-authored with James R. Brown at Iowa State University and Christian Thomann at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), was shortlisted for 2023 Financial Times Responsible Business Education Awards. The real-world impact of the article was recognized as highly commended. Research Summary "The paper shows that putting a higher price on polluting (through a tax) leads to substantial increases in firms’ investment in research and development (R&D). Our results indicate that the entire response to the pollution tax is driven by firms with high pollution prior to its inception. We also show that the stock market valuation of polluting firms’ R&D goes up following the tax. Finally, we document that the reason polluting firms invest in R&D is to expand their capacity to absorb external knowledge and technical know-how." • Executive MBA programme internationally accredited by AMBA

Stockholm Business School is pleased to announce that it has, once again, been internationally accredited by AMBA for its Executive MBA programme. Only 2% of MBA programmes globally are recognised by AMBA - SBS is one of only two programmes in Sweden, and the only one in Stockholm, to hold such a prestigious award. AMBA's respected accreditation panel commended the Schools commitment to research, which was seen to be well integrated into teaching on the programme. The EMBA was seen to be valued by students, alumni, and employers alike, and the panel also cited recent investments in campus facilities as demonstrating a strong commitment to the EMBA and executive education delivery. The values of sustainability and social commitment were also mentioned by the panel as ingrained into the EMBA, and these values were seen to align with those of the university. • Stockholm Business School to win a grant for Transforming Entrepreneurship

There is a need to rethink and re-enact Entrepreneurship Education (EE). This is the firm conviction of a group of European scholars who together have received an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership grant. The main aim of the Transforming Entrepreneurship Education (acronym: TrEE) project is to change EE’s direction and practice in Europe. The team will start the TrEE project on December 1st 2022. In its essence, the TrEE project is about creating the resilience that is needed to deal with the major crises of our times, and the growing complexities of the societal challenges that come with them, both ecologically as well as socially. Entrepreneurship has the potential to contribute to solving as well as worsening some of such contemporary societal challenges. In this project, we propose to decouple EE from the creation of (high-growth) businesses, and instead put its (creative) potential to work to help enact more just futures, for ‘people’ as well as ‘planet’. This entails shifting towards innovating without exhausting planetary resources, addressing social inequalities, and becoming more inclusive. In short, this entails a justice for all life; human and more-than-human. This means making changes in the way we currently enact EE, finding new pedagogical premises, and developing new course formats, materials, and assignments. Concretely the project aims at elaborating new pedagogical approaches; developing & validating relevant course designs, materials, and teaching interventions and at organizing training activities (educate-the-educator). The project will run until the end of 2024.
