From January to March 2026, our PhD student Harita Raval is a visiting researcher at the National Institute of Education (NIE) at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. The visit was funded by a Stockholm University’s Donations-stipendie; the Rhodins, Elisabeth, and Herman Memory Fund, alongside departmental funds. The visit aims to refine the theoretical and empirical frameworks of her thesis through international collaboration.
Harita shares
– During my stay, I have had the privilege of working closely with Associate Professor Ban Heng Choy to further develop the conceptual framework for my doctoral thesis. Our discussions and collaborations have been extremely rewarding and have helped me deepen my comparative focus on how pre-service teachers in India and Sweden notice classroom situations. I also had the opportunity to present my research in a seminar for the Mathematics and Mathematics Education (MME) academic group at NIE, which allowed for a rich exchange of ideas with faculty and graduate students.
– My time at NIE has extended well beyond the library. I’ve had the chance to observe various teacher education programs and visit schools at every level across the city. Additionally, I’ve been involved in exciting projects exploring AI in mathematics education and have benefited greatly from collaborating with Chen Kexin, a fellow PhD student also specializing in teacher noticing.
– The visit has been both valuable and inspiring. It has broadened my horizons and provided a strong foundation for the next stage of my doctoral journey and my career as a researcher," says a delighted Harita.
