Dualities, Emergence and Realism workshop

Event Description
The workshop explores the conceptual and philosophical relationships between dualities, emergence, final theories, realism, and ontology in contemporary physics. It brings together questions about whether apparently different theoretical descriptions represent the same underlying reality, how higher-level structures emerge from more fundamental theories, and what these features imply for our understanding of fundamental ontology and scientific realism.
The workshop takes place in Stockholm, Sweden, September 29-Oct. 1st 2026.

Practical Information
Location: Gula Villan, Minerva room, SU Frescati Campus.
The workshop will take place in the Minerva room at Gula Villan, Stockholm University’s Frescati Campus (Svante Arrhenius väg 33, 114 18 Stockholm). The easiest way to reach the campus from central Stockholm is by metro (Tunnelbana): take the red line 14 towards Mörby Centrum and get off at Universitetet. From the station, Gula Villan is about a 5–10 minute walk through the campus. You can also reach Universitetet by bus 50 from central Stockholm/Odenplan, bus 540, or several regional buses; Roslagsbanan also stops at Universitetet.
