New student
As a new student, you are very welcome to us at the Department of Media Studies! First you have to be registered and check out some things.
Most important of all as a new student, of course, is that you
- become registered and
- thus activated your university account and
- find your course page on Canvas.

When you then start your education, you will find most of it on the page "During your studies". If you still feel that you are wondering things, just ask us and we will help you!

To be allowed to study, you must be registered and to retain your place on the course, you must register during the course registration period.

Visas and residence permits
Before you come to Sweden, make sure that you have the correct documentation.
Swedish personal identity number
Students who are staying in Sweden for more than a year must apply for an official Swedish personal identity number. All students who don’t already have a Swedish ID number are assigned a temporary number by the university.
Banking and payments
Whether it’s beneficial to open a Swedish bank account depends on how long you’re staying in Sweden, whether you need to receive income and how well your home bank services work in Sweden
Health and insurance
Students at Stockholm University are covered by different insurances depending on their student status. Make sure you know which category you belong to and pay attention to coverage and restrictions.
