Chemistry Section represented at the 2026 ForskarFredag

Researchers from the Stockholm University Chemistry Section, consisting of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and the Department of Chemistry, took part in the 2026 Science Fair, ForskarFredag, to engage young students’ interest in science and inspire them to study at university.

Researchers from the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics and the Department of Chemistry teamed up to represent the Chemistry Section on September 25 for ForskarFredag this year, to show young students (age 15-19) the section’s research and talk about what it’s like to work as a researcher.

“The event was useful for introducing young people to the research infrastructure such as Atomic Force microscopy at the Chemistry Section in Stockholm University. The event gave us the opportunity to increase its visibility, and inspire students by showing them how important research infrastructure is for scientific progress”, says Jing Li, staff scientist at the Department of Chemistry.

Engage interest in science and inspire students to study STEM

The exhibition attracts around 5000 young students, and is an opportunity to stimulate interest in science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, showcase chemistry research and inspire the young students to consider a career in science.

“Joining the ForskarFredag is always an exciting and fun experience! It gives us researchers a valuable opportunity to interact and connect with high school students, share our passion for science, and hopefully inspire the scientists of tomorrow. The students were indeed eager to learn more and asked many interesting questions. I hope we were able to convey what our research is about, why it matters and how it can have a positive impact on society. I’m already looking forward to participating again next year!”, says Julian Wagner, PhD student at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics.

More about ForskarFredag

The ForskarFredag exhibition was held in AlbaNova, Albano, and is an event to show young students that researchers are ordinary people with extraordinary jobs. The Science Fair is organized by Vetenskapens Hus, which is owned by KTH and Stockholm University. ForskarFredag is part of the European Researchers’ Night, with events taking place all over Europe.
