International Polar Year 2032–2033
On 29 September 2026, the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat and a number of Universities and Institutes will host the Swedish National IPY V Scoping Workshop.
The planning for the 5th International Polar Year (IPY-5) 2032–2033 is ongoing, and the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat has received a governmental mandate to initiate the Swedish planning process during 2026. As part of this work, the Secretariat is now launching the first national planning workshop for the Swedish polar research community.
This workshop will mark the first step in outlining the Swedish scientific community’s vision, priorities, and ambitions for IPY-5 2032–33. The workshop will be organised on 29 September as a hybrid event, with hubs at universities across Sweden, with the Bolin Centre at Stockholm University being one of them.
