Web articles – the most common way to reach out to media

We reach out to media continuously by publishing news on our website. The communications officer writes an article or an interview with the reaseacher, and then contacts relevant media outlets and journalists.

When published, the articles appear on the newsfeed at the department's and the university's website. The articles are also distributed on the department's social media and, sometimes, in the university's newsletters.

Press releases

Note that very few research results are disseminated through press releases. Instead, we work actively on other ways of reaching out to media, such as web articles mentioned above, which have proven to be as, and sometimes even more effective.

In some cases, we put out press releases through Stockholm University’s press office. Those are sent to the media through Mynewsdesk and published on the university's newsfeed. The press office decides which news will be distributed as press releases. 

Expertsvar – a way for journalists to find researchers

We are affiliated with Expertsvar, a service from the Swedish Research Council where journalists seek researchers that are experts in different areas. This means that the press services at the university and the department help journalists to get in contact with researchers.

Social media

Our main social media platform is LinkedIn where we publish research news, news related to the department, our researchers' participation in media, conferences, etc.

We also have two Bluesky pages, where we mainly disseminate research results – Bluesky page of the department and Bluesky page of SUDA.

We run two Facebook-pages as well, one for the Department of Sociology  and one for the Stockholm University Demography unit, SUDA.

Project pages

All research projects have their own webpages, containing information about the project, including project members and publications. Among other things, an updated project page increases the probability for the research to be found by journalists.

Visits at the department

We organise study visits at the department, primarily aimed at senior high school students, where researchers give talks and answer questions.
