The study of language structure includes grammar, phonology and semantics. Our research concerns both modern and older Swedish – sometimes both. Often, the focus is on language change and variation.
Our researchers are interested in both contemporary Swedish and Swedish from earlier periods—often both, since this makes it possible to describe how the language changes over time. In many studies that seek to understand why language varies and why it changes, Swedish is compared with its closest related Nordic and Germanic languages.
