Linguistic text and discourse analysis study language as a tool for making meaning, often in writing but also through images and layout. We investigare the structure of important text types in society, as well as how identity, ideology and power is produced and reproduced in texts.
Text researchers, for example, ask why a text is designed in a particular way, or why a certain collection of texts is important in a given context, such as for a company or a public authority. Discourse analysts investigate the representations of reality that are created and examine which viewpoints and perspectives (discourses) are given space. For instance, our researchers study how texts govern organizations, how knowledge is communicated through different media, and how identities are constructed through language.
