Our research combines knowledge from geology, oceanography, biogeochemistry, ecology, and economics to provide a broad, interdisciplinary understanding of coastal ecosystems in the Baltic Sea and how they are affected by human activities, pollution, and climate change.
We study how various management measures - such as nature conservation, fishing bans and ecological restoration - affect biodiversity, including population diversity and ecosystem functions. The research is carried out both in the field, including at the Askö Laboratory and with the vessel R/V Electra, but we also work with numerical modelling and evidence synthesis. An important goal of our studies is to provide scientific support to coastal zone management.
