This research area examines participation, learning, development, and well-being among children and young people who require additional support, and the environments that influence their participation, learning, development and well-being.
Children’s and young people’s opportunities to participate in social settings and learning environments are crucial for their continued participation, learning, development, and well-being, including their cultural development. Individuals are viewed as active contributors who help shape their own experiences and environments.
A central focus of our research is ensuring that children and young people who need additional support, or who are at risk of social exclusion, have opportunities to actively participate and contribute their own knowledge and abilities in preschool, school, and leisure-time settings. The research also aims to support inclusive learning environments and reduce exclusionary processes that may arise during childhood and adolescence and that can have long-term effects throughout life.
