Research area Translation studies

Areas of translation include literary and professional (non-literary) translation, as well as audiovisual translation, e.g. subtitling. Areas of interpreting include sign language interpreting, public service interpreting (in the areas of care, welfare, and justice), and conference interpreting.

We teach and research the various areas of translation and interpreting.

Interpreting

Interpreting between different languages takes place in a variety of different contexts. This means that interpreting scholars gather their empirical data from various areas of society, e.g. from the domains of education, healthcare, and law, or from the organisations of the EU.

Translation

Translation research is often multidisciplinary, and borrows models and methods from adjacent fields such as linguistics, literary studies, sociology, anthropology, didactics, film and media studies and cognitive science.
