Research project Graduate school for vocational didactics and collaboration between school, working life and teacher education (FYSALIS)
The FYSALIS research school is aimed at teacher educators in vocational teacher education programmes. It strengthens research on, and the knowledge base for, vocational education and vocational teacher education in Sweden, based on three interconnected themes: vocational education from historical, societal, and international perspectives; processes of socialisation and identity formation; vocational didactics and the social practices of vocational teaching and learning.

Sweden has a significant need for vocational teachers, and there is also a shortage of teacher educators within vocational teacher education programmes who conduct research on vocational education and vocational didactics. Strengthening vocational teacher education in the country requires more research, more researchers, and stronger connections between schools, working life, and teacher education. This is where the Research School for Vocational Didactics and Collaboration between Schools, Working Life and Teacher Education (FYSALIS) comes in – a research school for teacher educators in vocational teacher education programmes at five universities and university colleges. Its purpose is to contribute new knowledge about vocational education and vocational teaching, and to provide future teacher educators with better opportunities to teach prospective vocational teachers on a scientific basis.
