Research project CO₂-responsive colloidal dispersions for efficient CO₂ capture

Stockholm University coordinates this research initiative, which aims to develop a new generation of safer and more energy-efficient carbon capture technologies. The work focuses on CO₂-responsive colloidal dispersions containing aminated nanoparticles or porous colloids as an alternative to conventional amine-water scrubbers, which are energy-intensive and may release harmful substances.

Through the design, synthesis and characterisation of advanced colloidal materials, the research seeks to reduce the energy required for CO₂ capture and regeneration, improve capture efficiency, and minimise the formation of toxic nitrosamines and nitramines. By bringing together expertise in chemistry and engineering from Stockholm University and KTH, the initiative will advance sustainable carbon capture solutions while helping to train the next generation of researchers in the field.
