Research project Assessing the Feasibility of Marine Cloud Brightening – Physical Processes, Climate Effects, and Ethical Considerations
Aerosol-cloud interactions are one of the main uncertainties climate models and future climate projections. At the same time, they form the basis for Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB) – a suggested method for deliberate climate intervention.
This project will study aerosol-cloud interaction in subtropical marine clouds in the context of Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB), with the aims of improving physical understanding and model representation of the relevant physical processes.
With the most apt models, we will study projected effects of MCB-implementation on climate, including potential un-desired side effects, on circulation and precipitation.
The research will also be embedded in an ethical socio-political framework, both regarding deliberate climate intervention implementation, and regarding the role and responsibility of the research community in investigating these topics.
