Research group Georgios Sotiriou group
The Sotiriou Lab, based at SciLifeLab Solna Campus and the Arrhenius Laboratory at Stockholm University, is a multidisciplinary nanomedicine research group developing engineered nanoparticles, aerosol-assembled medical devices, biosensors, and drug nanocarriers to address major health challenges through innovations in material engineering, bioengineering, and health sciences.

Welcome to the Sotiriou Lab, based at SciLifeLab Solna Campus, and at Arrehniuslab in the Department of Chemistry at Stockholm University. We are a research group with focus in Nanomedicine.
The three main research pillars of our lab regard the (i) nanoparticle engineering for chemical (food safety) and biological sensing (e.g. physiological parameters such as pH, reactive oxygen species and ammonia levels), (ii) the fabrication of medical devices capitalizing on aerosol nanoparticle self-assembly on surfaces combining particle synthesis and particle film fabrication in a single-step, and (iii) the utilization of nanoparticles as drug nanocarriers in precision therapies of diseases. Ever since the setting up of our lab, we have been discussing with our clinical colleagues who are experts in medical and health sciences trying to identify global health challenges where nanotechnology and material engineering may offer innovative solutions.
Our approach is highly multidisciplinary combining expertise from material engineering, bioengineering and health sciences. This allows for the design of biomaterials that exhibit the desired functionality in applications ranging from diagnostics (biosensors) to therapeutic interventions.
