About me
Annika Johansson, PhD and Associate Professor, has been working as a Senior Lecturer Dutch language and literature since 2006.
From 2006 to 2019, she served as Director of Dutch Studies, with responsibility for the department’s educational activities.
Activities at the Centre for the Advancement of University Teaching (Stockholm University):
- 2023–2025: was a member of the team Aktuell högskolepedagogisk forskning (Current Research in Higher Education Pedagogy).
- 2021: served as a Pedagogical Ambassador, working on a project on digital assessment in language learning.

In 2024, Annika Johansson served on the jury for one of the most prestigious literary awards in the Dutch-speaking world, the Prijs der Nederlandse Letteren. More information about the award is available here: Jury Prijs der Nederlandse Letteren 2024 announced.
From 2012 to 2014, she was Head of Department for the Department of Baltic Languages, Finnish, and German (including Dutch).
From 2015 to 2025, Annika Johansson represented Dutch Studies in the Nordic countries as a member of the board of the Internationale Vereniging voor Neerlandistiek (IVN).
Annika Johansson teaches Dutch at all levels.
During the Autumn Semester 2025, she developed and taught the Master's course Dutch as a Foreign Language in Theory and Practice (7.5 ECTS credits).
Annika Johansson earned her PhD in 2006 with a dissertation on contrastive Dutch–Swedish verb semantics within the theoretical framework of cognitive semantics.

Completed Projects
Handbook of contrastive Dutch–Swedish semantics (completed in 2019). The project was funded by the Dutch Language Union (Nederlandse Taalunie) (reference STOCKH(32)). The results were published in a book on contrastive semantic studies in Dutch and Swedish with an introduction to third language acquisition and cross-linguistic awareness. Moreover, the book examines a range of linguistic structures in Dutch and Swedish. It also addresses third-language acquisition didactics, which is closely linked to Annika Johansson’s Dutch language proficiency teaching at Stockholm University.

2018–2023: Global Media for Children? Since 2023: Developing and Testing an Intervention to Enhance Students' Motivation to Learn Dutch in an Academic Context.
This project received cross-faculty project funding from Stockholm University (reference numbers SU FV-3299-22 and SU FV-0675-23). Three articles based on the project are currently in preparation.
