The STIR group brings together a mix of technologists and social scientists. Together, we research and build new digital technologies. Our work is situated within the Human–Computer Interaction field.

About me

I am a Professor in Human-Computer Interaction and a co-leader of the Stockholm Technology and Intearction Research group. I am also a Docent in Social Psychology at the University of Helsinki.

I teach in the Design & Information Society course that is offered as a parft of the Masters program on Designing Creative and Immersive Technologies.

I also supervise Bachelor and Masters theses, primarily in the domains of Human–Computer Interaction and Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and especially projects that are empirically oriented and apply qualitative research methods.

My research interests include interpersonal and economic aspects of networked platforms and algorithmic systems. I have published extensively in the areas of Human-Computer Interaction and Computer-Supported Cooperative Work.

Currently, I am PI of the Swedish Research Council (VR) project Shared Uses of Intimate Technology and PI of the WASP-HS research environment Autonomous Systems and Robotics in Society. I am also part of the Digital Futures faculty.

Autonomous Systems and Robotics in Society

Ready for robots? The integration of robots and autonomous systems into society has impacts across scales, connecting the intimate and emotional to the regulatory and economic. We take a human-centred and movement-focused approach to this transformation.

Digital Futures Drone Arena

How can humans and drones interact? The Digital Futures Drone Arena is a demonstrator project that develops a novel aerial drone testbed, arranging annual drone competitions.

Shared Uses of Intimate Technology

Intimate technologies, such as insulin pumps, smart vibrators, and digital contraceptives, are typically designed for use at an individual level. However, their use and its consequences are often shared and social. This project examines how emerging intimate technologies within reproductive health come to be shared.

Inclusion in Societies Through Collaborative Digital Assistance

Society is racing toward AI, robots, and digital devices – but is everyone keeping up? In this community-based project, we investigate how people with visual impairment navigate collaboration and interaction in this digital shift regarding assistive tools.

Human–Computer Interaction for Economic Encounters

There is an increasing trend towards organizing economic and social exchange with the help of online platforms. The transportation service Uber and the short-term rental service Airbnb are two examples. This project focuses on economic encounters in relation to these new marketplaces.
