New rules for lithium-ion batteries
From 17 September, new rules for lithium-ion batteries apply at Stockholm University. Batteries for electric bicycles, electric scooters and similar means of transport must not be brought into, stored or charged in university buildings.
The President has decided on the new rules to reduce the risk of fire. Fires involving lithium-ion batteries can develop rapidly and produce toxic smoke.
The ban applies to batteries for electric bicycles, electric scooters and similar means of transport, regardless of battery capacity. It also applies to other lithium-ion batteries with a capacity exceeding 10 ampere-hours (Ah), such as a high-capacity power bank.
The rules apply to everyone in university buildings. Electric vehicles used as a means of transport by people with disabilities are exempt from the ban.
You can still park an electric bicycle in outdoor bicycle racks with the battery attached. You can also park your electric bicycle and charge its battery in the bicycle cage at the southern car park in Frescati. A subscription is required to use the bicycle cage.
