Stockholm University still among the world's top in the Shanghai Ranking

Stockholm University is in 103rd place in the world in the 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai Ranking. Among European universities, Stockholm University is ranked 31st. This is slightly lower than last year, but the university keeps its position as the third highest-ranked higher education institution in Sweden.
Ahead of Stockholm University among Swedish universities are Karolinska Institutet and Uppsala University. That Stockholm University continues to rank just outside the global top 100 shows a stable position in the international competition between the world's universities.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), often called the Shanghai ranking, is published annually and compares universities based on several research-related indicators. Among other things, scientific publications, citations, and internationally recognized research results are included in the assessment.

The ranking covers universities from all over the world, and the top 1,000 institutions are published in the global list.
