New master’s programme to strengthen Swedish influence in the EU
The Swedish government will provide funding to three universities to launch new master’s programmes aimed at strengthening Sweden’s influence within the EU.

Stockholm University will be allocated SEK 9 million for 2026 and is expected to receive SEK 18 million annually from 2027 onward. The programme is two years long and is expected to accommodate 120 full-time students once fully established. The annual grant of SEK 18 million is expected to be awarded to Stockholm University from 2027 onwards.
“We are very pleased to receive funding that enables us to offer a broad and cohesive education for future public servants. The programme combines law, political science and economics, giving students a strong foundation for careers in public administration and within the EU,” says Göran Sundström, Professor of Political Science.
The initiative aims to strengthen expertise in EU-related issues and public administration. The master’s programme will launch in autumn 2026 and initially offer specialisations in economics and political science, with a law specialisation to be added at a later stage.
