Insurance for outbound students

All students studying abroad through an agreement with Stockholm University are covered by the insurance Student OUT by Kammarkollegiet. To be covered by the insurance you need to meet certain requirements, for example there generally need to be a registration in Ladok. Please contact the International Coordinator responsible for your studies abroad to see what applies in your situation. The insurance is free and valid two weeks before and two weeks after you study abroad period, 24hrs a day in the host country. The insurance is also valid during direct travel to and from the host country. In order for the insurance to be valid, you need to meet the requirements stated in the terms and conditions. An insurance certificate can be issued by the International Coordinator responsible for your studies abroad.

The insurance for example includes personal injury cover, medical care and dental cover, liability cover, legal cover and crisis and disaster cover. Please note that a home insurance is not included. The insurance does not offer full coverage and its your responsibility to read the terms and conditions and decide to have additional insurance.

Please note that:

• The insurance does not apply in countries where the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against all travel. If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against all travel to a specific area in a country, the insurance does not apply in that part of the country.
• If you have started your outward journey before the advice has been issued, the insurance will continue to apply during a transitional period (max. 30 days), allowing you to leave the country.
• If the country of study is the country in which you are domiciled, the only clauses that apply are personal injury cover and liability cover.
• If you are in Sweden or another country than your host country and are studying with a university abroad by means of distance learning, the insurance covers accidents which occur during distance learning, if the accident can be directly related to the distance learning.

If you need to make an insurance claim

• Initially, you have to pay for medical care, medicines etc. yourself. Save all receipts. Your insurance certificate does not function as means of payment, but is proof that you are covered by the insurance. – If you are studying abroad in the EU/EEA/Switzerland/United Kingdom and have a European Health Insurance Card, you should primarily use this in contact with the health care.
• Fill out an injury report form to make your claim. You can find the form at Kammarkollegiet’s website.
• Submit the form together with original receipts, police report or other relevant documents to the international coordinator at Stockholm University, responsible for your studies abroad.
  
• The international coordinator at Stockholm University signs the claim and submits all documents and a copy of the current exchange agreement to Kammarkollegiet.

When Kammarkollegiet has processed your claim, they will repay expenses within a couple of weeks.
