Written Proficiency and Academic Writing
The Written Proficiency and Academic Writing course provides in-depth knowledge of the German language and offers an introduction to academic writing in German. The course practices written language proficiency in German, both in formal and academic contexts.
The course is a freestanding module of the German II course and is a continuation course of the German I course.
The course consists of two modules.
Modules
Written Proficiency, 3 credits
This module provides in-depth knowledge of written proficiency through the analysis of various texts with a particular focus on genre-specific features and through the writing of various types of texts in German.
Academic Writing, 4,5 credits
This module practices academic writing in German. During the module, the formulation of a research question, how to search for relevant literature, and how to write a coherent research paper are covered. A smaller study is conducted using research methods relevant within German linguistics, literature, or cultural studies, or within German didactics.
Teaching Format
Teaching consists of (recorded) lectures, seminars, (group) exercises, and supervision, either in groups or individually.
The language of instruction is German.
Assessment
The examination is conducted in German.
Written Proficiency, 3 credits
This module is examined through five written assignments in different text genres.
Academic Writing, 4,5 credits
This module is examined through a shorter research paper.
