Dutch language internship
The course consists of a supervised internship at an institution or company with activities related to a Dutch-speaking environment. The course aims to give students perspective on and understanding of work related to Dutch-speaking culture and society.
Through the internship report, students practise their ability to reflect on the connection between the skills acquired during their education and the practical tasks and problems they encounter during their internship. The internship period should also improve students' language skills.
The course comprises five weeks of full-time work or the equivalent in part-time work. Students are responsible for arranging their own internship placements. There must be a supervisor at the internship placement. Before the internship begins, an internship plan must be drawn up between the student and the supervisor. Both the internship placement and the internship plan must be approved by the department.
The course is useful for all professions and jobs where advanced knowledge of the Dutch language, Dutch-language literature and the culture of the Dutch-speaking countries, as well as advanced skills in scientific text production are required or a competitive advantage.
This course can be taken as an independent course at advanced level but it is also one of the compulsory courses for students that want to obtain a Master’s Degree (60 credits) in Dutch or a Master’s Degree (120 credits) in Dutch. Read more about our master and courses at advanced level here:
Teaching Format
The internship is a place of education. During the internship period, the student is part of the workplace organisation and carries out relevant tasks. Teaching takes the form of supervision at the internship workplace, with the student and supervisor having ongoing discussions about the student's work. Attendance at the internship workplace to the extent specified by the internship supervisor is compulsory.
Grading criteria
Assessment
The course is examined by the student compiling their experiences in a written internship report.
The language of examination is Dutch.
