Basic Cell Biology

Discover the fascinating world of cells! In this course, you will learn the basics of different cell types, how they form tissues in the body, and what can cause them to develop into tumors. Meet our experienced teachers and active researchers, and gain new knowledge through a variety of teaching activities. The course provides an excellent foundation for further studies in many areas of biology and biomedicine.

In this course, you will learn about different cell types and how they organize into tissues consisting of stem cells and specialized cells. You will also gain insight into various causes of cancer development. Furthermore, we will discuss how different cells have evolved, as well as how genetic variation can be used to construct family trees. The focus will be on the human genome.

A number of different model organisms, including bacteria, yeast, fruit flies (Drosophila), roundworms (C. elegans), and mice, will be used to illustrate the concepts and principles discussed in the course.

You will also gain an understanding of the concept of sustainability and its relevance to cell and molecular biology.

This course is not offered in English, but feel free to read the description in Swedish.
