https://stockholmuniversity.zoom.us/j/61581138013The last decades, there have been an increased systematic effort on the development of materials focusing on the catalytic conversion of greenhouse gases such as CH4, CO2 to synthetic chemicals, fuels, and hydrogen. Among the studied materials are supported nanoparticle systems, but due to their lack of long-term durability, the research interest turned to alternatives such as the so-called ex-solution concept or the development of coordination polymers. It has become an epitaxial necessity for the design of the materials.
Ex-solution has attracted research interest due to its simplistic, single-step pathway to produce supported nanoparticles, which present high stability against agglomeration and poisoning. Potentially, this concept could give us the ability to tailor materials, through strain engineering, which has been shown to control multiple properties including oxide ion, electron and thermal transport, catalytic reactivity and magnetic properties and thus impact on many other research areas of interest.
On the other hand, coordination polymers (CPs) have attracted more interest in the community due to the ability of structural characterization through single-crystal X-ray or Electron Diffraction. CPs provide the opportunity to tailor them upon understanding of their structural features. Moreover, it is essential to discover sustainable concepts of scaling them up as a big plethora of them is based on solvothermal/hydrothermal approaches.
The aim of this webinar is to introduce recent advances in the design and characterization of catalytic materials, with a focus on coordination polymers and exsolved nanoparticles. We will discuss their potential for greenhouse gas conversion, highlight key challenges in their development, and explore strategies to enhance their performance for sustainable chemical processes.

About the speakers
Dr. Kelly Kousi
Lecturer in Chemical Engineering
Surrey University, UK

Kelly Kousi is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Surrey, UK.
Her research interest lies in new materials and structures for different catalytic applications, currently focusing on emergent nanomaterials for energy conversion processes, mainly greenhouse gas conversion and the production of synthetic fuels and hydrogen. She is also very interested in science communication, has been honoured in the WE50 Awards for her efforts in promoting inclusion and equity within engineering, and has received a Horizons Award from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for her innovative teaching practices.
Dr. Ioannis Mylonas Margaritis
WISE postdoc
Stockholm University, Sweden

Dr. Ioannis Mylonas Margaritis is currently WISE postdoctoral researcher at Stockholm University working with Dr. Zhehaho Huang.
His work centers on the development of Metal-Organic Frameworks and coordination polymers with a focus on phosphorus chemistry.
