Anna Åberg visiting researcher at Score
Anna Åberg, Senior Researcher in the History of Technology and Science at Chalmers University of Technology, will join Score as a visiting researcher during the period January–June 2026. We warmly welcome Anna to Score!
Anna, tell us about your research.
My research focuses on energy history, and I have a Ph.D from KTH in historical studies of technology, science, and the environment. Within this field, my previous research interests lie primarily at the intersection of energy and resource policy, transnational history, power relations, and science communication.
What will you work on during your visiting researcher stay at Score?
At Score, I will be working on two different projects. In the first project, entitled “When poverty compels the saving of fuel: Historical practices of energy poverty in Sweden” I am collaborating with two colleagues from Linköping University with funding from VR. The aim is to understand the significance of energy shortages between 1860 and 1925, during a period of industrialisation and urbanisation that was fundamental to the emergence of the Swedish welfare society. The second project is a Nordic collaboration funded by NordForsk with participants from Chalmers, the University of Stavanger and Aarhus University. The project, called Energy Lives! Infrastructural Citizenship in Nordic Energy Transitions, examines how energy infrastructures have developed in interaction with local populations in the Nordic countries over the past 150 years. My part of the project will concern the history of oil refineries in Gothenburg.
