We are delighted to invite you to a discussion on contemporary challenges in
international humanitarian law, scheduled for January 22, 2025. This event is
convened jointly by the Swedish Branch of the International Law Association and
the Embassy of Mexico in its capacity as Chair of MIKTA.

MIKTA is an informal and innovative partnership comprising Mexico, Indonesia,
South Korea, Türkiye, and Australia, established in 2013, with the objective of
bringing together middle powers from different regions to tackle global challenges.
Its focus spans areas such as peace and security, sustainable development, and
strengthening multilateralism. As the current chair of the MIKTA group in
Stockholm, the Ambassador of Mexico, Alejandro Alday, will deliver the opening
remarks, highlighting MIKTA's commitment to advancing these shared objectives.
The discussion will then delve into critical topics such as the military use of
artificial intelligence, cyber operations in armed conflict, and other pressing issues
in the field.

• Ola Engdahl, Principal Legal Advisor on International Law at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs
• Mark Klamberg, Professor of International Law at Stockholm University
• Heather Harrison Dinniss, Senior Lecturer in International Law at the Swedish Defence University.

The discussion, which will be followed by Q&A, will be moderated by John Kadelburger, President of the Swedish Branch of the International Law Association.
