Roundtable series on Turkish foreign policy co-organised by SUITS and FOI

Since 2020 SUITS has been coordinating roundtable discussions in Stockholm to discuss Turkey’s foreign policy and its role in European security.

The closed roundtables, which occur six times per year, bring together experts on Turkey and international affairs. They represent one way that SUITS achieves its mission to disseminate “a deep and nuanced understanding” of the evolving relationships among Turkey, Europe and Sweden. Ideas are exchanged openly under the Chatham House rule, and the meetings feature an evolving list of topics and tailored invite lists. In addition to building a network of experts, they also introduce Swedish experts to a global network and expand opportunities for ongoing collaborations.

It’s edifying to take a topic that we want to know more about and invite world-class experts to talk about it. The changing security landscape makes Turkey increasingly critical to understanding shifts in global politics.

- Paul T Levin, Director of SUITS

The current collaboration, begun in 2025, is run by Paul Levin and László Szerencsés and their counterparts Marianna Serveta and Aras Lindh at FOI (The Swedish Defence Research Agency). The discussions can also be seen as a continuation and reimagination of the roundtable series formerly co-hosted with SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) that began in 2020.
