CEST Symposium 2027: Illiberal Peace, Conflict Societies and Political Futures
The 2027 CEST Symposium brings together scholars to examine how conflict-affected societies navigate peace, reconciliation and political futures in a period of democratic backsliding and changing approaches to conflict resolution.
With Turkey and the Kurdish conflict as an important point of departure, the symposium will also consider comparative cases and perspectives on transitional justice, forced migration, contested landscapes, memory, authoritarian approaches to peace, and alternative pathways beyond “illiberal peace”.
The symposium is organised within the Consortium for European Symposia on Turkey (CEST) and administered by the conveners Bilge Yabanci (University of Deusto & Basque Foundation of Science (Ikerbasque)), Kerem Öktem (Ca' Foscari University of Venice) and the Stockholm University Institute for Turkish Studies (SUITS).
