Revisiting Feminist Theories of Social Reproduction in Times of Crises, 7,5 credits
What can feminist theories of social reproduction tell us about the current conjuncture? This course revisits debates on social reproduction as a way of analysing how labour, care, social infrastructures, and the conditions of everyday life are organized under contemporary capitalism.
Against the backdrop of interconnected crises – including climate breakdown, war, growing inequalities, and authoritarian resurgence – we explore how the work of sustaining life is distributed across households, communities, and borders, and how these processes are shaped by gendered, racialized, classed, and transnational relations. We engage with key theoretical debates and methodological approaches, while considering how perspectives on social reproduction might illuminate and complicate participants’ own research.
The course is intended for PhD students interested in feminist theory, social reproduction, and questions of how life is sustained and organized under changing social and political conditions.
