Welcome to a screening of: First They Came for My College

What happens when political power comes for a university?
First They Came for My College follows students and faculty at New College Florida as their
campus becomes the center of a struggle over academic freedom, institutional autonomy,
curriculum and the future of higher education. Through intimate, on-the-ground footage, the
film shows how a political transformation of a university is experienced by the people who
study and work there.
As universities increasingly find themselves at the center of political battles, this documentary
asks a question that extends far beyond Florida: who gets to decide what a university is for?
Come watch the documentary and join in an online Q&A with one of the Professors of New
College Florida, Maria D. Vesperi, who will be there to discuss her experiences following the
screening.
This screening was made possible through generous funding from the Swedish Society for
Anthropology and Geography (SSAG), and the Department of Social Anthropology at
Stockholm University.
