Hümeyra from Turkey about her time at Stockholm University

What were your main reasons for coming here?

– I came to Stockholm University as a PhD visiting researcher with funding from the TÜBİTAK 2214 Doctoral Research Fellowship Program from Türkiye. My main motivation in choosing this department was the strong research tradition in attachment and psychology of religion, as well as the opportunity to work under the supervision of Professor Pehr Granqvist, whose work has been highly influential for my own research interests.

– I was kindly accepted by Professor Granqvist, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to conduct my doctoral research under his guidance for nine months. In addition, being part of the Attachment and Psychedelic Research Laboratory has been a truly valuable and inspiring experience.

Being part of the seminars and research discussions has also helped me develop greater confidence in articulating my ideas in an international academic setting.

How has your first semester been?

– My first semester has been academically enriching and personally meaningful. Working in such a supportive and intellectually stimulating environment has deepened my understanding of both theory and research practice. One of the most important aspects for me has been witnessing how interdisciplinary perspectives are integrated into research here.

– Although my main research area is the psychology of religion, being exposed to related fields such as attachment research, clinical perspectives, and experimental methods has broadened my academic outlook significantly. Being part of the seminars and research discussions has also helped me develop greater confidence in articulating my ideas in an international academic setting.

What are you looking forward to during your second semester?

– Next semester, I am most looking forward to advancing my dissertation further under Professor Granqvist’s supervision, particularly in terms of data analysis and interpretation. I am also excited to remain actively involved in the laboratory, continue learning from the research culture here, and contribute to ongoing discussions and projects as much as possible.

– Since I will be staying for a total of nine months, I see the next semester as an important phase in deepening my research and strengthening international academic connections.
