Subject
Data-intensive methods in fundamental physics, astrophysics and cosmology.
Subject description
The subject covers method development of data analysis techniques and machine learning within fundamental physics, astrophysics, particle physics or cosmology.
Main responsibilities
Research and in addition some teaching and supervision.
Qualification requirements
In order to qualify for the position as assistant professor, the applicant must have completed a doctoral degree in Sweden or an equivalent degree from another country. Priority will be given to applicants who have received such a degree no more than seven years before the deadline for applications. The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the subject area of the position.
Additional information
The employment is linked to the activities at the Oskar Klein Center (OKC), based at the Department of Physics, but also includes researchers from the Department of Astronomy and KTH Physics. At OKC, several theoretical, observational and experimental efforts are conducted in fundamental physics, (astro)particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology. The employment is advertised in connection with a new initiative from the Swedish Research Council (VR) which aims to strengthen the ties between various data-intensive research projects at OKC and to increase the connection with teaching at both institutions of higher learning, as well as the contact surface with high-tech industry. Support for a postdoctoral employment for up to five years is included.
Female applicants are particularly welcome, as we aim for an even gender balance.
Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.
Department of Physics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Science and supports a broad range of basic research in experimental and theoretical physics. It has about 230 employees, of which 60 are PhD students. Many have been internationally recruited. The Department is part of the AlbaNova University Center, which apart from the Department of Physics houses the Department of Astronomy, the Physics Departments at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics (Nordita).
Members of the department are also part of the Oskar Klein Centre for Cosmoparticle Physics (OKC), a rich scientific environment that comprises more than a hundred researchers working in both theory and experiment.
