She is now awarded the prize for outstanding scientific achievement 2023 for her doctoral thesis From Words to Voids: Absencing and Haunting in Crimean Semiotic Landscapes

Extract from the award motivation:

“Natalia Volvach, who studies linguistic and non-linguistic signs in different environments of the Crimean peninsula, makes an important contribution to sociolinguistic theory and to the ethnographic research on semiotic landscapes. The thesis, which is well written and convincing, raises important theoretical questions about the role of language in creating meaning in times of conflict.”
