How digital platforms have changed our behaviors and habits
Digital platforms have become increasingly important to our everyday life. If used and understood correctly, they can bring real value to society, Chiara Latour establishes with her PhD thesis in economics.

Chiara Latour, PhD candidate in economics at Stockholm University.
For Chiara Latour, the idea to write the papers on digital platforms came from a curiosity in competition economics, and to better understand different industries and markets. In the first chapter, she studies key strategic choices of a car-sharing platform that integrated its own bus service.
Chiara’s interest in understanding how markets really work, led her to several other topics she also explores in the thesis:
“The regulation of prostitution and firms’ compliance in public procurement are further examples of how rules shape economic behavior in ways that aren’t always obvious,” she says.
Chiara already works as a consultant in competition economics, and will continue to do so after her thesis defence. “This lets me directly apply the tools I developed during my PhD to real antitrust cases,” she concludes.
