Can a ‘Nordic Reflex’ Strengthen Regional Security? NORDSECURE Project Launches in Stockholm

STOCKHOLM, 8 October 2026 – Researchers and security practitioners from across the Nordic region gathered in Stockholm on 7–8 October for the kick-off workshop of NORDSECURE, a new NordForsk-funded research project exploring the resilience and future of the Nordic security community.

Hosted by Stockholm University in collaboration with the Swedish Institute for International Affairs, the workshop brought together leading experts to examine how the Nordic countries respond to an increasingly complex security environment.

At the heart of the discussions was a key question: Is there a distinct “Nordic reflex” in addressing contemporary security threats? Participants explored this concept through discussions on military cooperation, countering disinformation, and safeguarding critical maritime and undersea infrastructure.

The workshop marked the beginning of a collaborative research effort aimed at understanding the strengths, challenges, and future development of Nordic security cooperation in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.

NORDSECURE is funded by NordForsk through the Swedish Agency for Civil Defence (MCF).
