Isa Blumi delivered a keynote speech at the National Archives in Madrid

On 17 September, Isa Blumi, Professor of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, delivered a keynote speech at the International Conference ‘Circulation of Knowledge in the Ottoman World, c. 1500–1900’ at the National Archives in Madrid.

In his keynote speech, Isa Blumi addressed imperial intimacies and their bureaucratic consequences in the Ottoman Adriatic and the Red Sea. The conference served as a platform to reflect on the circulation of knowledge, focusing in particular on places, actors, and how the practices of circulation changed, evolved or transformed from the 15th century until the demise of the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century.

Isa Blumi was also recently interviewed by the Nigerian radio programme BORDERLINES, hosted by Ireti Bakare-Yusuf, on Yemen, the Houthi advance and its implications for the US–Iran conflict. Listen to the episode on YouTube.

Blumi is also guest editor of the latest issue of Middle East Critique (35): The Impossibility of Stability: What to Make of the Ruination of Yemen, in which he has also written an introduction to the nine articles by scholars working on events in Yemen.

Isa Blumi is professor of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at Stockholm University.
