The European Association for Japanese Studies (EAJS) held its 18th triennial conference in Poznań, 27–30 August 2026.

Our department was represented by Dr. Mitsuyo Kuwano Lidén, who presented a paper titled “A practical report on distance tandem activities (2020–2025) and considerations for future activities and development-based learner reflection” in the Association of Japanese Language Education (JAE) section, and by Damiana De Gennaro, who presented “Gendered lyric community and the making of women’s voices: Nyonin Tanka” in the Modern Literature section. Prof. Jaqueline Berndt served as co-convenor of the Media Studies section and chaired five panels. This year’s conference drew more than 1300 participants. Among them was also Prof. Ewa Machotka (University of Zürich/Stockholm University), who introduced parts of her ongoing VR project online in the Visual Arts section.
