Curious about Korean!

EVENT
Date: Tuesday 10 November 2026
Time: 17:30 - 18:45
Location: Språkmuseet, Rum för språk, plan 1, Kulturhuset, Sergels Torg 7

Gabriel Jonsson, associate professor of Korean language and culture at Stockholm University, talks about the Korean language at the Language Museum (Språkmuseet), Kulturhuset.

Korean is written using a special alphabet that was developed in 1446. King Sejong wanted to create an alphabet that everyone could learn to read and write, rather than the complicated Chinese characters that had previously been used. Gabriel Jonsson, associate professor of Korean language and culture at Stockholm University, explains how the alphabet came about, how the Korean language is linked to its hierarchical society, and how it differs from Swedish. The event is free in Swedish and open to everyone.
