Stockholm International Banking Crisis Management Conference

The Stockholm International Banking Crisis Management Conference took place on 10–11 June 2026 and brought together Swedish and international policymakers, researchers, and other experts for presentations and discussions on how to manage banks in times of crisis.

Roine Vestman, Professor of Economics and Director of CeMoF at Stockholm University, highlighted the importance of the collaboration with the Swedish National Debt Office:

”Resolution is a relatively new field. Our collaboration with the Swedish National Debt Office has been crucial in enabling us to teach these topics at Stockholm University. Through this conference, we also hope to strengthen our network and, ultimately, further develop our research environment in this area.”

Ten years for the EU’s resolution framework

The conference marked ten years since Sweden implemented the EU’s resolution framework for managing banks in crisis.

The first day focused on policy issues and practical experiences, featuring a keynote address from Ricardo Reis, and panel discussions with leading figures from institutions such as the European Central Bank, the Single Resolution Board, the Bank of England, the Riksbank, and the London School of Economics. Discussions addressed topics including the effectiveness of post-crisis banking reforms, and the role of liquidity and confidence in crisis management.

The second day, hosted by CeMoF, focused on current academic research on bank resolution, systemic risk, bank runs, liquidity, solvency, and financial regulation, with presentations by leading international scholars.
